One of the few things every successful Internet marketer agrees on isthe importance of building an opt-in email list. There are many different options available to assist you in this, including software that runs on your PC, web-based services, and scripts that install on your host server.

But I could never find exactly what I was looking for without paying up to $200 a month.

I had some needs that no other program currently offered. The software also had to be powerful and strong. So I approached a programmer...who gave me a quote of over $4000. (I managed to talk him down to $3500.)

These are the features in the blueprint we put together:

• Full Personalization
  This will allow each email to be personalized--within the subject of the message and within the body of the email.

• Capitalization of First Name
  Automatic upper case of first letter of first and last names.

• Email Address Management
  Removes non-active email addresses after receiving five bounces, while allowing subscribers to reply to the remove message.

• Automated Subscribe/Unsubscribe
  This will allow users to subscribe/unsubscribe from the newsletter hands-free. Unsubscribe details will be placed at the end of every email to ensure only members who want to receive the information. Can be done via email and web address. Also includes links for AOL users.

Note: Detects Unsubscribe message in subject and/or first line of body of message.

• Custom Messages
  On subscribing, new subscribers will receive a custom welcome message based on the autoresponder. On unsubscribing, users will receive a custom leaving message.

• Removal of Duplicates
  Easy removal of duplicate email addresses-–automatically. Disallows duplicate subscriptions to newsletter, but allows subscriptions to multiple newsletters and autoresponders.

• Manual Filter/Search
  Option to manually remove or change of address of selected email subscribers.

• Automatic Subscriber Count (ASC)
  Real-time, live, web-based subscriber count for advertisers to see our actual real-time number of subscribers.

• HTML (web page sent via email) and Text Design
  Publishing via email, using both plain text and optional HTML designs.

• Send Multipart Messages (Send text-based email to some; HTML to others.)
  Able to sense if receiver can read HTML. If not, sends plain text.

• Timed Sending
  Allows immediate sending of message, as well as delayed sending up to 100 days ahead.

• Check Sending
  Allows self-send to test formatting, design and links. Also checks links to see if active.

• Fast Sending Speed
  500,000 messages per hour, multi-threaded.

• Templates
  Saving of previous messages for quick newsletter production and preview.

• Central Archive
  Previous mailings stored for reference and available for display online.

• Spam Protection
  History of every users subscription info (via IP address) for your records to protect against accusations of spamming.

• Sign-Up Form
  Easy sign-up form generator--includes option for pop up window.

• Multiple Autoresponders
  Allows multiple, timed and personalized responses to newsletter sign ups.

• MySQL Database Driven
  Allows upload of existing lists from MS Access and other commonly used database programs.

• Normal "From Address"
  Allows normal email address in the "from address header" details.

• Configurable
  "Thank you for signing up for Our List" page (from web sign up).

• Date Tags
  Easily insert a date, formatted as you choose.

• Summary Report for Each Broadcast
  Shows messages delivered and more.

• Pop-Up Builder
  Easy to use pop-up window builder (pop under, pop on exit--also, ability to set parameters such as window size). Also allows building of the "no action required pop-up" for ezine/or email autoresponder courses.

• Autoresponders
  Provide unlimited personalized follow up autoresponders.

• Track Links
  Able to create tracking links. This tool will allow you to track any promotion and will show what action will be taken. This means you can find out how many visitors turned into sales, plus how many ezine subscribers you received, and even how many affiliates you've acquired.

The price I was quoted was out of my range, but I'm not one to give up easily. I figured, if these tools would be useful to me, they'd be just as valuable to others.

So what I propose is a co-op to save everybody some money and get $4000 worth of quality programming for only $80.

A $50 start fee to get the programmer started and $30 on completion.

We can do this by getting 60 members who are interested in receiving this quality product when finished.

Everyone has different ideas on what features they'd like, so each member would be able to test the product during the construction phase and suggest new features and options.

The resulting product would be web site based, and would only be for your own use, but a limited number of reseller licenses would be offered.

These licenses would be $500 and only a limited number would be sold.

Now, I know not many people know my name, or who I am, so I asked a business associate to write a small piece about me. Even though we've never physically met, she was able to put these few words together:

I realize that some people are hesitant about putting their hard-earned money forward. That's why I've used the following simple, 3-step process:

1. Initial Payment of $50 - This amount goes to the programmer to get the project started.
   
   
2. Input and Development - You get to suggest features and see demos of how the project is going via email and the Web.
   
   
3. Completion - Approximately 30 days later, when the project is finished, bug tested, checked and rechecked (by the programmer, myself and the members), only then do you pay the remaining $30 and receive the completed program.

But I always try to give you more, so this is what happens when you sign up for 1 of the 60 member slots:
